Recently I one of my students from my coaching told me that she read the STM “What´s working in Affiliate Marketing 2019” and that probably only Andrew Payne and me are still running mainly Pops.
Then we had a Skype call and I told her my opinion about it and I could imagine that it could be interesting for others as well.
The thing is when you read about uptrends or downtrends in traffic types then you mostly read the opinions of high volume super affiliates, traffic source or CPA network owners.
You read the stuff from the perspective of people who run really high volumes for high profits and thus focus on the things that can make them that much money.
But that doesn´t mean that everything else is suddenly not working anymore.
It only means that some things are not that good anymore to make really big money.
When something can “only” make few hundred Dollars per day it´s not really attractive for the big players.
They think and calculate in much bigger dimensions.
But would you skip something that makes you few hundred Dollars per day?
And that´s the point, often there is no general “This traffic type is good” or “This traffic type is bad”.
It depends on what you want to archieve.
Of course there are trends in affiliate marketing, the landscape changes all the time.
But often it´s not worth to follow every new trend hoping to finally find the big success you ever dreamed of.
Check your goals and then check how you can reach them.
Do you want to make 6 figures in profit per month?
Sure, then Pops and Push probably are not your best bet.
Then traffic like Native or Facebook would be a better choice for you.
There you have massive volume and the traffic works good with high payout offers.
So when you ask people who want to run 6 figure/month campaigns of course they will tell you that Pops are not good anymore.
And they are absolutely right with it for their own needs.
These times are over on Pop traffic but that doesn´t mean that Pops are bad in General.
Do you just want to make a good income from affiliate marketing and you don´t need to make $50k profit/month?
Then Pops are far from being dead, it´s still possible to run good three figure campaigns on Pop traffic.
But why do you read everywhere then that Pops are not recommended anymore, why is everyone telling that Pops are dead?
Because something that can only make few hundred Dollars per day is simply not interesting for the big players.
Now think about all these affiliates out there, what do you think how many of them make that big money?
And I don´t mean these Fakes who only pretend to be rich.
I mean how many people REALLY make that much money like $xxx.xxx/month?
Exactly, it´s only a very small percentage of all affiliates.
Then there are many affiliates who make let´s say from $3k-$15k per month, this is absolutely doable.
And then there are lots of affiliates who struggle and have problems to get something profitable running at all.
When you read about good or bad traffic types from the perspective of high volume Super Affiliates and then try to run the “good” traffic as well because this is where the big money is you should keep in your mind that then you also have to compete with these guys.
Although there are always trends in affiliate marketing for things that are working better than others it doesn´t mean that it´s easier when you just follow these trends because often competition also is a lot harder there.
Often it´s easier to succeed in rather “unpopular” verticals because you don´t have such a hard competiton there.
It´s similar to running Tier3 countries vs running Tier1 countries.
Can you make good money, enough for a good income running campaigns in Tier3 countries with lower payouts? – Yes you can
Can you make 6 figures/month with low payouts in Tier3 countries? – Not really
So before you only listen to what others say think about how much it will match to your own needs.
Just because something is good for someone it doesn´t automatically mean that it´s good for you, too.
And just because something is bad for someone it doesn´t automatically mean that it´s bad for you as well.
Conclusion: It´s always good to be up to date and to know what´s going on in biz.
But in then end everyone is different and everyone should focus on what is best for the very own demands.
That way you often can run your stuff much more relaxed, there is no need to make life harder than needed.
Wicked article, I really needed to hear these words right now.
Internet Marketing can be one confusing labyrinth at times, it’s great to be able to step back and see what I want out of this industry and how I can achieve it.
Looking forward to running Pops in tier 2/3 Geo and living a better life.
Thanks Sebastian!
Thanks for the comment.
In my opinion a big problem is that often the people try to follow other peoples successes.
But what is good for one doesn´t necessarily also has to be good for yourself.
And you never know the way the other people had to walk to reach the success.
Also you never really know what is needed to keep it on that level.
So just step back a bit, think about your very own needs and what YOU really want.
Then often you will find much easier and better solutions for your very own plan.
When you just want to earn good money for a relaxed life there is no need to run campaigns where you have to compete against 7 figure super affiliates or multi million Dollar direct advertisers.
